A tribute to Flash and all animals

I created this painting poster in memory of my beloved pet companion Flash (August 2000 – April 2019), who granted me 19 years with his enchanting presence, insatiable talk, wit, cuddles and love. Life will be so different without him…

I really love animals. All of them. They don’t judge, they are curious and loving. We ow them respect and care. They harmoniously populate this earth and coexist with us. What gives us the right to treat them with superiority?

There is still a lot we don’t know about them and their mental capabilities, and I personally don’t believe that humans are the only ones privileged with organised thought, metaphysical questioning or a soul.

Still, it was about time that in the western world we started considering animals in a moral aspect and recognize their rights. I don’t believe that creating a moral equality with other species is a negation of humanism, as stated by philosopher Francis Wolff, or a new way to consider humans.

Today we have the means to establish new policies and ethics to alleviate animal suffering. Since we don’t treat our pets, farm animals and wild animals the same, we at least ow to treat each one of them properly. Their protection should be one of our top priorities. The planet’s future depends on it. Aren’t we all living species codependent?

Here are some international organizations working towards animal rights and protection:
ACTAsia for animals works to promote compassion and against animal suffering in Asia.
The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) works to preserve and protect all African Wildlife.
The Humane society International (HSI) works to protect all animals around the world, including lab animals, farm animals, marine mammals and wildlife.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) focuses on farm animals, clothing trade, laboratories and the entertainment industry.
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international marine wildlife conservation, with a mission to preserve and protect our oceans ecosystems and species. We all need to take action now.
