Pears

The pear is a fruit which has one of the strongest symbolic charges. In the West, like the apple, it represents femininity, but with more nobility and class.

“Fruit of the gods”, according to Homer, it was banished by the clergy, because it also symbolizes temptation. In Baroque art, it represents fertility.

In China, its country of origin, the pear is a symbol of separation and is never shared between spouses, friends or partners.

In Greek mythology the pear tree is associated with Hera and the apple tree with Aphrodite. In the Heraion of Mycenae, one of the oldest sanctuaries dedicated to Hera, statues of the cult of the goddess were carved from pear wood.
